Spotted Garden Eel

The spotted garden eel (Heteroconger hassi) is a saltwater species that belongs to the eel family, Congridae.

They usually spend their time with the lower part of their bodies buried in a small hold of the ocean floor sand with top part of their bodies sticking out; but they bury themselves completely in the holes when a enemies approach.

When finding a new home to bury themselves in, , they burrow the holes by twisting their bodies tail-first into the sand. If lucky, you may see them doing this at Sea Life Nagoya!
